Farm Assistant - Permanent. Learn More >Glendhu Dairies Ltd, located in Balfour, is seeking a motivated, honest, and reliable person to join our team as a farm assistant. Main duties will include milking (once a day only with two people at cups on), stock handling and feeding, fencing, weed control, calving, calf rearing, farm and shed and machinery maintenance and preparation, maintaining animal health, and other general farm duties. Glendhu Dairies is an immaculate 550-hectare dairy farm. The contour of the land is flat to easy rolling, with beautiful views in every direction. Our stock is wintered in two state-of-the-art barns during the off-season, as well as when supplementary feed in required. The dairy shed is an 80-bale rotary that is well equipped with cup removers, Protrack auto-draft, auto teat spray, and molasses feeding system. Having modern and up to date technology in the shed ensures that milking time operates efficiently. All our cows have been fitted with Allflex collars. This system monitors cow health and assists in picking up cows on heat. Some technology skill would be advantageous for this position. We offer a competitive hourly rate of $30/hour, and you will be rostered to work 4 days on and 2 days off. Work hours will vary depending on times of the year. There are great schools close by and we are located within easy drive of Gore and Lumsden (main service towns) and Queenstown is just on our back doorstep. You will be working alongside the farm owner and a team of wonderful staff. All suitable applicants must have a current work visa, show a good work ethic, have no previous criminal history and be able to pass a drug test. Driver’s license essential. Accommodation will be provided. You will need to have your own vehicle to commute to work. Although we would prefer someone with previous experience, we would consider training someone with the right attitude that was keen to get into dairy farming.
